Pray for the Hungry
If you are like most people, you want to serve, but you also want to find that “right place,” the one that you will feel like you are truly making a difference in, the one that connects with your passions. It is just as important to find the “right place” to serve as it is to serve. The problem becomes, “How do I find that place?”
The exciting answer to that question is found in the understanding that our choices are only limited by our willingness to be open to the opportunities that God presents and to the restrictions we put on our own imaginations. A life of service extends to so many different areas of life- whatever you have traditionally believed ‘service’ to include, it’s bigger than that! It’s more than only giving food/water, building wheelchair ramps, packing food at the food bank, etc. All of those things are service- of course, and if any of these areas are ones you enjoy and are passionate about, then what is preventing you from jumping right in? But it can also be so much more!
As you begin to accept that God is calling every one of us to service (not if but how) consider thinking outside the box. Think about the things you enjoy doing for others and consider making that a regular act of service to God and to your community.
Questions for discussion:
· What do you think was the main point of Matt’s message?
· What do you think John meant when he wrote, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth?” (1 John 3:16-18)
· What are some things you enjoy doing for others or “causes” that you are passionate about?
· How can you incorporate your passions (above) with the opportunities God has placed in your life to make a difference in your community?
Do something about it:
John tells us that our faith and service should not be mere words and speech, but actions and truth. Start this week by taking some time to list all the things you enjoy doing for other people. Also list particular causes which inspire you. Choose at least one of the things on your list and proactively seek to make it a regular act of service
