What is the best Christmas gift you ever received? Why was it so special? For many people, what makes a gift memorable or special is the thought and/or effort that went into the gift. These are the things that show us we are special in the giver’s eyes. This is what really makes it more special to us. As you consider what this Christmas is going to be like and what will make it special and memorable, take time to consider the ultimate gift and the reason for holiday: God chose to come as a babe and walk the earth as a human being in order to establish a personal relationship with us. This act cost him nothing (monetarily) but cost Him everything (physically). His incarnation demonstrates to us that we do not have to spend more (money) to give more. A gift of our time and our live can amount to much more than we could ever imagine. Is it possible that you can make this a memorable Christmas by spending less, yet giving more.
Questions for discussion:
· What do you think was the main point of Matt’s message?
· What was the best Christmas gift you ever received? Why was it so special?
· What is your favorite Christmas tradition? Why?
· What are some practical ways that you can make this Christmas memorable by giving more and spending less?
Do something about it:
Use the incarnation as an example of what “giving of yourself” can mean. Look for some creative ways to express how much you care for those you love by providing them with a gift of your time, talents and resources. Use this opportunity to help your family understand that the things that we will remember and will retain their value are rarely things.
